“When Brothers Dwell in Unity”
(Psalm 133:1-3, MKJV) “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! (2) It is like the precious ointment on the head that ran down on the beard, Aaron’s beard, that went down to the mouth of his garments; (3) like the dew of Hermon that came down on the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing, life forevermore.”
This is a song of praise from David. David is thanking the Lord for the unity that he sees in the congregation. Unity pleases God. And when God is pleased, He will do great things for His people. Unity among the people of God brings great anointing, “It is like the precious ointment on the head that ran down on the beard, Aaron’s beard, that went down to the mouth of his garments.” This Scripture compares the anointing that comes from unity, to the same great anointing that was upon Aaron, the high priest. This special anointing means that there is authority with God and with men.
Paul wrote to the churches about the necessity of unity; (1 Cor. 1:10, GW) “Brothers and sisters, I encourage all of you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to agree with each other and not to split into opposing groups. I want you to be united in your understanding and opinions.”
Peter also wrote about the necessity of unity; (1 Peter 3:8, GW) “Finally, everyone must live in harmony, be sympathetic, love each other, have compassion, and be humble.”
And as David so poetically wrote in verse 3, “Like the dew of Hermon that came down on the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” As the dew descends on Mount Hermon, so shall the blessings of the Lord descend upon His people as they dwell in unity.
