Daily Bible reading: Ezekiel 12-14 and Hebrews 9
“Jesus – Our Everything”
(Hebrews 9:11-15, ESV) “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) (12) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. (13) For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, (14) how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. (15) Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.”
From these verses we come to the understanding that Jesus is our high priest, perfect tabernacle, sacrifice, redeemer, savior, and our mediator. The Lord Jesus is all of these and so much more. Hebrews 8 tells us that Jesus holds the highest position in heaven; (Heb 8:1, GW) “The main point we want to make is this: We do have this kind of chief priest. This chief priest has received the highest position, the throne of majesty in heaven.”
The prophet Isaiah saw the greatness of the coming Messiah. (Isaiah 9:6) “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be on His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Therefore, if you need a counselor or peace, look to Jesus. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
If you need a mediator, look to Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5) “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
If you need salvation, look to Jesus. (Acts 4:12) “And there is salvation in no other One; for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” In this verse Peter was telling the priests why he must preach the name of Jesus. Because salvation is only found in Jesus and in His wonder name. That is why the prophet said that the name of the Messiah is wonderful. Jesus is our everything.
